DUCA BELINTANI
Live at juke joint
On the road for more than 40 years, renowned guitarist Duca Belintani releases his ninth solo album, titled “Live at Juke Joint”, recorded live during his performance at the Juke Joint Blues Festival in Clarksdale.
In 2019, Duca Belintani hit the road by car for an adventure across what he calls “The Blues Trail.” A route that starts in Chicago and goes all the way down to New Orleans, stopping at every place that seemed to carry good blues vibes. It could be a roadside bar, juke joints, music studios, and so on. The goal was to listen to great music and exchange ideas with people—all in the name of authentic, roots blues.
It was in Mississippi that a deep personal connection and sense of belonging emerged. That’s where Duca felt comfortable surrendering heart and soul to the magic of Mississippi Delta music. In that moment, his dream came true as he played his first chords at the legendary blues venue Blue Front Café in Bentonia.
The sounds of the Mississippi Delta originate from the lone musician playing in a “Juke Joint” with the aim of bringing joy and fun to the people—and that was exactly how Duca felt while playing his music for the audience at the Blue Front Café, in the same way the Blues legends did long ago.
“The lone guy, coming from somewhere,
looking for opportunities to play his music
and entertain people.”
In 2024, Duca Belintani visited Mississippi once again. This time, he made history as the first Brazilian artist to be part of the official lineup of the Juke Joint Blues Festival, one of the most traditional blues festivals in the United States, held in the iconic city of Clarksdale.
Duca Belintani brought a taste of Hill Country Blues, a style he learned in the region back in 2019. Over the course of fifteen days, he performed seven shows in notable venues such as Ground Zero, owned by actor Morgan Freeman, Bluesberry Café, and various street stages. In addition, he had the honor of performing once again at the legendary Blue Front Café, in neighboring Bentonia.
During his performances, the guitarist made sure to record the audio of each show. These recordings have now culminated in his latest album, titled “Duca Belintani – Live at Juke Joint.”
